Biological Activity for Tenofovir

Tenofovir is a selectively inhibits HIV reverse transcriptase (RNA-dependent DNA polymerase). Prevents cytotoxicity in SIV-infected C-8166 cells in vitro (IC50 = 1.5 μM). Antiviral agent.

We studied in vivo tenofovir breakdown.How it is converted to tenofovir.Tenofovir lacks a hydroxyl group in the position corresponding to the 3' carbon of the d-AMP and tenofovir was observed to cause premature termination of DNA transcription, preventing viral replication.
