Activates mGlu4 receptors in transiently transfected HEK293 cells; selective over all other mGlu subtypes (mGlu1, mGlu2 and mGlu5-8). Decreases cAMP levels in native cultured cerebellar granule cells. Also counteracts excitotoxic neuronal cell death induced by NMDA in mixed cultures of cortical cells; displays neuroprotective activity.
