Neuromedin U Receptors
Neuromedin U (NMU) receptors are a group of Gq/11-protein-coupled receptors that are currently divided into two subtypes: NMU1 and NMU2. The two subtypes have distinct tissue distributions: NMU1 is expressed in the periphery, whilst NMU2 is expressed in the CNS.

Neuromedin U (NMU) receptors are a group of Gq/11-protein-coupled receptors that are currently divided into two subtypes: NMU1 and NMU2. The two subtypes have distinct tissue distributions: NMU1 is expressed in the periphery (especially in the gastrointestinal tract), whilst NMU2 is expressed in the central nervous system (especially in the substantia nigra, medulla oblongata and pontine reticular formation).
NMU receptors mediate diverse biological effects including contraction of the uterus, peripheral vasoconstriction causing hypertension and activation of the HPA axis resulting in decreased food intake via the CRH system. The human genes encoding NMU1 and NMU2 are located on chromosomes 2q37.1 and 5q33.1 respectively.
