BDY (BODIPY®) Dyes

BDY (BODIPY® or boron-dipyrromethene) Dyes are a class of fluorescent dyes frequently used for labeling nucleotides and amino acids, and are important tools in a variety of imaging applications. BDY dyes have a core 4,4-difluoro-4-bora-3a,4a-diaza-s-indacene (boron-dipyrromethene or BODIPY®) structure. They have a high quantum yield and small Stokes shift, as well as exhibiting good solubility, and thermal and photochemical stability. BDY dyes are available across the color spectrum.

NHS ester (or succinimidyl ester; SE) dyes are the most popular tool for conjugating the BDY dyes to biomolecules. NHS esters are used to label the primary amines on proteins, antibodies and amine-modified oligonucleotides. See NHS conjugation protocol.

BODIPY® is a registered trademark of Molecular Probes.
