View all Inward Rectifier Potassium (Kir) Channels products.VU 591 hydrochloride is a selective renal outer medullary potassium channel (Kir1.1, ROMK) antagonist (IC50 = 300 nM). Thought to block the intracellular pore of the Kir1.1 channel. Exhibits no effect on Kir7.1 at concentrations up to 10 μM; does not inhibit Kir2.1, Kir2.3 or Kir4.1. Displays similar potency to VU 590 (Cat. No. 3891).

VU 591 works to block Inwardly Rectifying Potassium Channels on a few subfamilies. The blocking effect showed by VU 591 is variable on the different classes of Kir channels. Compared to VU 590 which was also used as a reference meausre its blocking action has been found to be on the lower side.Overall acts as a great measure for comparing blocking action.
