生物活性 for Minocycline hydrochloride

Minocycline hydrochloride is a tetracycline antibiotic. Displays neuroprotective, antiapoptotic, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects. Acts as a matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) inhibitor; attenuates disease severity in mouse models of multiple sclerosis. Orally active and brain penetrant. Allows formation of extended pluripotent stem (EPS) cells in combination with CHIR 99021 (Cat.No. 4423), (S)-(+)-Dimethindene maleate (Cat.No. 1425) and human leukemia inhibitory factor.

I have used the antibiotic minocycline to impair activation of microglia in the brain of mice. This drug has anti-inflammatory properties that block microglial reactivity, which can be easily confirmed by expression of the CD68 protein. The drug was diluted in PBS and injected i.p. (75 mg/kg) in mice, twice a day, for 7 days. The image shows that microglial cells (stained for Iba1) do not express CD68 (in red) after treatment with minocycline.
